THE FOUR MILLENNIA
“The Four Millennia” views the chronicles of religious history from a unique and optimistic point. From the year
3,000 the observer reviews the past centuries back to the year 1,000 B.C. In this first millennium, people worshipped
and feared the Greek and Roman gods and held many superstitious beliefs. The years commencing with the birth
and shortly following the crucifixion of Jesus Christ were accentuated by his teachings and are depicted by the
upswing of the spirituality timeline. Slowly however, his lessons were translated into different languages and
versions, distorting and misconstruing his original truths. Furthermore, mankind undergoes a series of religious
persecutions: the persecution of the Christians by the Romans, missionaries forcefully convert "heathens" in newly
discovered lands to their faith, the Spanish Inquisition, the Salem witch trials, the Jewish holocaust, and the
Catholic/Protestant struggle in Northern Ireland, to name a few. The timeline straightens, indicating a period of
spiritual stagnation. The circular motion around the tree of harmony shows the blind acceptance of the altered truth.
