The Garden Spot
It is the birthright of every human being to inherit a garden spot, which is the human mind. On this land, one has the freedom to think, say, and do as one chooses. The ground is neutral and will always obey the gardener. If one cultivates positive thoughts, then good deeds will follow. If one, however, propagates feelings of resentment and ill will, the harvest of these fruits will consequently be sickness and misery. If one does not cultivate or sow at all, weed seeds will sprout and eventually take over.
Five trees on this property need to be maintained and represent a five-fold relationship which mankind should strive to improve: to oneself, to other people, to animals, to nature, and to matter. The band of universal law which states that every end is at the same time the beginning of something else, encompasses all of man's existence.
(The original painting is from the private collection of Bruce & Mimi McComb of Tappahannock, Virginia.)
